The Daily Mirror 1976 / 2022

In 1976, renowned dancer and choreographer Wendy Perron began The Daily Mirror, creating movement each day as a kind of choreographic journal. Forty-six years later, dancer Morgan Griffin revisited the work through Babette Mangolte's original photographs, giving the piece another life.

A Living Archive

I worked with Morgan, Head Hi, and the publisher to turn that conversation across time into a physical object. Working through Mangolte's contact sheets and new footage of Morgan, I developed a custom typeface from the original photographs and designed a two-way mirrored flip book, allowing the two performances to face and move toward one another.

Mirroring

Working through Wendy’s contact sheets and Morgan’s new footage, I developed a visual language that let the two performances speak to each other. I created a custom typeface from Wendy’s archival contact sheets, then designed the book as a two-way mirrored flip book, allowing the original and new performances to meet in the middle.
